Figured Walnut: How to Finish It and Woodworking Project Ideas

American black walnut is always a beautiful wood, and sometimes parts of the logs will yield some additional figure. Curly, burl, crotch, flame, and quilting are just a few of the types of figure you might find in walnut. This short video shows a few project ideas for figured walnut, what parts of a walnut log will reveal figure, and also some tips on how to finish figured walnut for an eye-catching woodworking project. The three-step process starts with:

1. Applying a penetrating oil (such as tung oil, Danish oil, boiled linseed, etc.)
2. Applying a sanding sealer (usually 3 coats)
3. A final top finish of spray lacquer
